BOXING BELTS GUIDE

The 4 Major Boxing Belts Explained: WBC, WBA, IBF, WBO

Professional boxing has no single world title. Four sanctioning bodies each crown their own world champion in every weight class: the WBA, the WBC, the IBF and the WBO. Each one awards its own belt, and a fighter who holds all four at the same time in one division is the undisputed champion. [1]

WBA: World Boxing Association

The oldest of the four. It was founded in 1921 as the National Boxing Association and officially became the World Boxing Association on 23 August 1962. [2] The WBA can recognise more than one champion in a division: its Super champion gets special standing, and a separate titleholder is usually called the Regular champion. [2] On the versions we make, the WBA Super and WBA belts, a jewelled crown sits on top of the gold centre medallion.

WBC: World Boxing Council

Founded when representatives met on 14 February 1963. [3] Its belt is the easiest to recognise: the green WBC belt carries the flags of all 161 member countries around the gold centre. [3] See it on our WBC Green belt.

IBF: International Boxing Federation

It grew out of the United States Boxing Association and was renamed the International Boxing Federation on 6 November 1983. [4] On the version we make, the IBF belt, a gold eagle and twin globes sit on the centre plate of a red strap.

WBO: World Boxing Organization

The youngest of the four, it began after a group broke away from the WBA’s 1988 annual convention. [5] On the version we make, the WBO belt, a gold eagle wraps a blue globe on the centre plate.

Undisputed vs unified: what is the difference?

A unified champion holds at least two of the major world titles in a division. An undisputed champion holds all of them at once. [1] With four belts in play, that is rare. Bernard Hopkins unified all four middleweight titles in September 2004, the first name on the list of four-belt champions. [1] At heavyweight, Oleksandr Usyk beat Tyson Fury by split decision in May 2024 to become the first undisputed heavyweight champion since Lennox Lewis in 1999 and 2000, and he unified all four again in July 2025. [1, 6]

Other belts you will see

Smaller sanctioning bodies also crown world champions, among them the WBF and the IBO. Their belts are real titles with their own histories, but they are not one of the four that make a fighter undisputed. [1] We make both: the WBF belt and the IBO belt.

What we make

Each full-size boxing title belt we make comes in one edition: cast 6mm plates on a genuine leather strap, $180, made to order and delivered in up to about six weeks, with roughly 3 to 7 more days for international delivery. Made-to-order belts allow no change-of-mind return, but if a belt arrives damaged, defective or not as described, you can contact us within 14 days of delivery for a free replacement or a full refund; see the full shipping and returns terms. For a side-by-side shopping view, read our boxing belts guide.

These are independently made, unofficial replicas. 12StarsChampionship is not affiliated with or endorsed by the WBA, WBC, IBF, WBO, WBF or IBO.
