Tag Team Championship Belts: The Collector's Guide

A singles title is one man's story. Tag team championship belts are two — which is why they are the belts people buy in pairs, for brothers, training partners, best friends and fantasy-league duos. Here is what each of the great tag titles means, and which replicas we build.

The WWE Tag Team Titles, Untangled

This is the part that confuses people, so here it is plainly. WWE ran a World Tag Team Championship from 1971 all the way to 2010. A second set, the WWE Tag Team Championship, was introduced later for the SmackDown brand.

In April 2009 the two were unified and defended together as the Unified WWE Tag Team Championship. On 16 August 2010 the older World Tag Team Championship was decommissioned, with The Hart Dynasty as its final champions, and the WWE Tag Team Championship lineage carried on alone. That is why you will see two different-looking sets of tag belts from the same era — both were real, and both were defended at the same time.
